Ok, I've managed to get it up and running, but I can't get it running smoothly. How do I get it to alert me when I receive a mesage? Also, if I navigate away from the window with my contact list in it, it closes, and I have to go into the task manager to get it open again. Can anyone tell me how to smooth out the use of miranda and make it easier? Thanks in advance.
To make it come up, assign a keystroke to the main window; ctrl+shift+a usually does the trick and is what's used most often. Toggles whether it's up or not when you leave window. All alert sounds are set under sounds in preferences.
Miranda is my main messenger now, and I like it for the most part, but I'll be the 1st to say the initial set up is rather a pain, until you sorta figure out the querks of how it all works. Hope that helps some.
I agree, the setup is a bit confusing at first, but once you get used to it, it's pritty streight forward. I use Miranda IM on Windows when I use Windows, but since I use my Macs mostly, I usually use Adium, which basically is the same as Miranda, in case anyone was wondering what in the world I was talking about.
HTH,
Jeffrey
Have you tried getting the preconfigured version of Miranda? There are a couple out there, but I can send you the one I've got if you send me a private quicknote at some stage.
You can find a very good tutorial of miranda for beginners from the last main menu show on ACB Radio.
I found it very helpful and after following it i could setup and use miranda really well.
You can download the tutorial from here.

It took me forever to figure out miranda as well especially to work with fb chat. now that that is done though it is also my main messenger.
yes, miranda is awsome. i've been using it for at least about a year now, and seeing that I have the preeconfigured version of it, the portible version I must say, it's absolutely amazing. I love the fact that you can run it off of a u s b drive or even a CD. and, as far as alerting you of a new message, the only way you can have that done is if you get the speak plugg-in for miranda. I have an older version of it here in my public folder in dropbox, which you can get from the following link
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2975926/speak.dll
just take that pluggin and paste it into your plugg-ins directory, then start miranda.
Oh, and for anyone that thinks that they have to do that info about emporting all of that stuff when you first set it up, no. you don't have to do that. You can skip all of that stuff and just go into the options and put in your messenger ID and stuff.
The version I'm running right now is not the latest version, however it doesn't matter to me because I don't like to always update to something better than what I have unless it's got something majorly awsome in the new version or unless some major bug fixes are fixed. pm me or something if my assistants is needed.
I should worn you about the Speak Plug in, once it starts speaking, you cannot stop it. You have to let it finish speaking.
I've got the miraspeak version. Its a version that has some plugins that help it interface with jaws. I think I broke mine though, since it will no longer read whose signing in and out, but if you want it, let me know. Their are two of them. The main miraspeak which is at blind-crawler, and mine, which I sent to john but I don't think he's put it up their yet called Miraspeak Mini. Mine stripps out all the unneeded plugins, and I was able to sort of figure out how the PHP file works, so I changed it a little, and I also placed in an updator plugin, and updated the remaining plugins. I also have the latest version of Miranda loaded and ready to go. Just run the launch.exe file. If you want miraspeak full you can go to blind-crawler.com, if you want mine, PM me and I'll be happy to send it.
I've never even hurd of miraspeak. And yes, the only way you can tell the speak plug-in to stop is if you quickly go into options and tell it to not be inabled, than inable it again. I use the speak plug-in pritty much for everything, and I have it set to only read my messages and not when someone signs in.
Having the Speak plugin announcing sign-ins and sign-outs is very disruptive, I find. Automatic speaking of in-coming messages, especially in irc, is very handy, as is the reading of prior message 1 through 6, bound to hotkeys, in some versions. Or, is that a function of sr extensions? I use the Miranda equivalents known as Adium on Mac, and Pidgin on Linux. All three programs share a code base and act similarly.
can someone point me to the speak plug in? I am running the latest version but got some plugins for an older version someone had on a jaws site somewhere.
if anyone needs the speek plug-in for miranda I have it here.

Hello!
To make Miranda's wndow not disappear after lt+Tabbing away go to options -- contact list -- window and unchck "Tool style window" then checkbox for this option will appear.
As speaking plugin i recommend Mespeak.

I have the pre configgered version of mirranda. I've tried updating to later versions, but each time I try, it doesn't seem like it's accessible. Anybody know what the problem is? Also, How do youu changed your status?
the reaon why it's probably not accessible is possibley because you don't have the contact list blind plug-in. as long as you have that you should be able to read your contact list and everything. and the way you change your status is by ctrl 1 is online, ctrl2, is away, ctrl 3, na, ctrl 4, occupied, ctrl 7 invisible, ctrl 8, out to lunch, ctrl 9, on the phone, and ctrl 0 is offline.
I tried that me speak plug-in and that thing doens't do anything for me. so I went back to the version of the speak plug-in that i've been using.
Where do you get the blind plugin? I'm running 0.8.2... bit out of date I know, but I try updating and that problem occured.
you can get it from
www.pescuma.org/miranda/bclist/lang/all.
be sure to get the version that is the unicode version
when you get it, remember to put the d l l file in your plug-ins directory
i love miranda. i'm using andre luie's pre configgured virsion of miranda from
http://onj1.andrelouis.com/programs/
I update my miranda all the time with no probs. love the newer versions of it.
I like the preconfigured version of Miranda. I can put it in my dropbox if anyone wants it.
I have it in mine already for those who need it, it's an older version, but yeah, like I said, I don't always like to update on my end unless I have to or just am bored enough to do so.
I've teste d out the BClist plugin. It doesn't work the way it used to in older versions of Miranda. In 0.9.3 which is the latest as of this writing, it cuts off parts of the names in the contact list. Also, it repeats the SRMM main chat window's name. Miranda Preconfigured is based off of Miranda 0.9.2. Can anyone confirm if the behavior is still the same in that version?
Spike, resize your contact list. That will fix your problem.
To update this topic,
I've got Miranda the latest version to work with the BClist plugin.
To do so:
1. Get Miraspeak and install it.
2. Install latest version of Miranda indicated above to MiraSpeak's dir in Program Files.
3. Launch it using MiraSpeak, not Miranda and configure it to your hearts content.
There's an error message you'll see, ignore it, since it won't affect your usage of Miranda.
I still don't get that.
I was trying to catch up with miranda, but no success yet.
if someone could give me a step by step tutorial to configure miranda and how to update my facebook with that, I'll appreciate it.
I've already installed miranda and also that miraSpeak.
Raaj.
Then go into accounts, make a jabber account, and put in chat.facebook.com as its domain your username from http://www.facebook.com/username for your username and your facebook password. Just go through the options to find what you want to change, its nothing but checkboxes and radio buttons.
Does anyone know of a good weather plugin I can try?
thanks. I'll give it a try. I was configuring it by selecting the facebook protocol, though
Raaj.
ooh weather. let me know what you find.
i've always used the facebook plug-in for fb, jabbor always made this thing crash.
Can someone tell me where some good sound skemes are for this?
